Belleville Woman Surprised By Burglar Outside Bedroom Window: Police

A Belleville resident got a startling visit from a would-be burglar last month as she was lying in bed, police say.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A Belleville resident got a startling visit from a would-be burglar last month as she was lying in bed, police say.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the Mt. Prospect Avenue resident told offices that she was lying in bed and talking on the phone around 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 30, when she heard someone trying to open her window.

The woman then got up and saw a tall, slim man in a mask and grey pea coat standing on the roof near her window, police said.

At that time, the man fled towards Belleville Avenue, authorities said.

According to Belleville police, the screen on the window was cut but the suspect didn’t gain entry to the home during the incident.
