UPDATE: Plane Crashes In N.J. Neighborhood; Hundreds Lost Power

A plane crashed in a New Jersey neighborhood, right where cars and houses are located. Story is developing...

A plane crashed in a New Jersey neighborhood on Sunday, according to reports. Power outages were reported in the area.

The Bayonne Office of Emergency Management there was a small plane crash sometime around 9 a.m. on Avenue E, between 41st and 42nd Street.

"PLEASE AVOID THIS AREA!" officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft was a Piper PA-28, according to CBS2, and Bayonne police said at least one person - the pilot - was injured.

Crews were trying to get him out late Sunday morning, according to the report.

These were updates from RLS Media:

  • The pilot was extricated. There are no other injuries reported.
  • The pilot was en route to the hospital suffering a broken leg and other bruises. Non-life threatening at this time.
  • PSEG initially reported a little more than 2,000 homes and businesses have no power. That number was later reduced to 1,300 and then 8, according to PSEG.

Others took pictures that captured the chaotic scene that developed for at least two hours. Or they expressed their shock on social media.
