Catalytic Converter Thief In Nutley Causes $3K Of Damage: Police

Surveillance footage shows a person go underneath the victim's SUV and return to their own sedan with the expensive car part, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — It will cost nearly $3,000 to repair a car damaged by a catalytic converter thief in Nutley earlier this week, police said Friday.

According to the Nutley Police Department, a vehicle owner who lives on Franklin Avenue reported the theft at police headquarters on April 26.

Security footage shows a late-model, white sedan enter the lot where the victim’s car was parked. The passenger can be seen going underneath the victim’s Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and returning to the sedan with the catalytic converter, police said.

Authorities released a surveillance photo taken at the scene. No additional information was immediately available.
