Check From Stolen Checkbook Turns Up At Nutley Bank: Police

A woman tried to cash a check that came from a stolen checkbook – then fled the bank, Nutley police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A woman recently tried to cash a check at a bank in Nutley that came from a checkbook stolen from one of its customers, authorities say.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the forgery incident took place last Thursday on Kinsland Street. Here’s what happened, authorities said:

“Officers responded on report of a female party attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Bank personnel stated they observed the check was from a stolen checkbook belonging to one of their customers and when they contacted the customer, they advised they did not authorize the female party attempting to cash the check. The female party fled the scene, and the surrounding area was canvassed for further information.”

Nutley detectives were alerted about the incident, police said.
