Belleville: Body Found in Second River
Police investigate death of 68-year-old Newark man

Police discovered the body of an unidentified 68-year-old Newark man in a Belleville river on Wednesday morning.
The cause and manner of the man’s death is pending autopsy, according to a release.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the man was found unresponsive in the Second River on Wednesday morning in the vicinity of 540 Mill Street. Police stated that the man’s vehicle was located nearby.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Belleville Police Department are conducting an investigation.

The Second River is a main tributary of the Passaic River that stretches from its source in West Orange to the Passaic River. From West Orange, the Second River passes easterly through the towns of Orange and East Orange, where it is joined by Wigwam, Parrow, and Nishuane Brooks, then turns slightly to the north and passes through Bloomfield and Belleville.
