2 Hospitalized After ‘Domestic Incident’ In Nutley: Police

Nearby schools were locked down and traffic was diverted as a precaution, Nutley police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A pair of people were hospitalized – and one arrested – after a “domestic incident” in Nutley, authorities said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, officers responded to a home on Humbert Street on Wednesday morning, locking down nearby schools and diverting all traffic from the area.

After police arrived, a man barricaded himself in the home. Police eventually managed to negotiate with him, and he was apprehended without further incident, authorities said.

Nutley Police Director Alphonse Petracco said that the public was not in harm’s way during any part of the incident.

Police Chief Thomas Strumolo said the lockdown and traffic measures were done as “precautions” to ensure that bystanders were protected until the scene was determined to be safe. The couple's injuries were not caused by a firearm, he added.

A police investigation continues. No additional information was immediately available.
