NUTLEY, NJ — The Nutley Public Library will be collecting Thanksgiving donations for the Food Pantry of the Nutley Family Services Bureau in November, one of several programs it will be running that month.

According to a news release from the library, visitors will be able to drop off non-perishable food items at a collection box in the Children’s Room from Nov. 1 to Nov. 18. The patron who donates the most canned goods will have their name honored with a bookplate in a library book and a gift card donated on their behalf to the food pantry.

Wednesday, November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 at 10:30 a.m. –Preschool Story Time – Children ages 3-5 can enjoy stories, songs, yoga and crafts! Wednesday, November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 at 1:00 p.m. – Wednesday Afternoon Knitters. Come share your love of knitting and crocheting with both beginning and experienced knitters. Meet fellow knitters, brush-up on your skills, and learn some new techniques. Please bring your own supplies. This group meets every Wednesday.

Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. The Secrets of a Mockingbird, written and performed by actress Prudence Wright Homes. Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, was one of America’s most beloved but reclusive authors. In this solo show, we learn of her close relationships with her father and her childhood friend, Truman Capote, until they both broke her heart. She never wrote another book, until she did. Prudenence Wright Holmes has appeared in the films Sister Act I and II with Whoopi Goldberg, Kingpin and Woody Harrelson, In Dreams with Annett Bening, My Own Love Song Renee Zellweger, and After Life with Liam Neeson and God’s Pocket with Philip Seymour Hoffman. On Broadway, she appeared in Happy End with Meryl Streep, Lettice and Lovage with Maggie Smith, Inherit the Wind with George C. Scott and The Light in the Piazza. Monday, November 6, 13, 20, 27 at 10:00 a.m. – Mahjong Mondays – Are you a Mahjong player and looking to play again? Our Mahjong club will meet on Monday mornings in the Stockton Room. We will provide the Mahjong board and tiles. No instruction is provided, so you must know how to play. No registration required! Just come in and enjoy the game.

Monday, November 6 at 3:00 p.m. – Trail Mix Day – Customize and take home your very own bag of trail mix with a variety of tasty goodies found in our trail mix bar! While supplies last. For Grades 6-12. No registration required!

Monday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. – DISH! The Monday Night Cookbook Club. Members will choose, prepare at home, and present in-person their DISH! We will then gather to sample and discuss each other’s recipes, our cooking techniques, and share stories and culture. Monday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. – Cricut for Beginners – Unique Winter/Holiday Cards – We will be using cardstock cut on the Cricut machine to assemble remarkable cards and envelopes, suitable for holiday giving. All supplies are provided. On-line registration is required and limited to 25 Nutley adults.

Friday, November 17 at 3:30 p.m. – Origami Fridays with Nobuko Okabe. Drop-in to the Children’s Room for origami instruction from artist Nobuko Okabe. No registration required. All supplies provided. Open to all ages, but children under 10 must have adult supervision.

Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. – Video Game Free Play – Calling all gamers! Join us for some video game fun! Drop-in and play Switch games on the big screen! Open to all skill levels. No registration required.

Saturday, November 25 at 10:30 a.m. – STEAM Story Time – Join us for stories and activities highlighting science, tech, engineering, art and math! For ages 2-6. No registration required.

Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. – “Going Going Gone: What the Next Generation Won’t Remember” Presented by Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta. During the past 20 years, we’ve gained smart phones, GPSs, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and many other services and devices. However, we’ve also lost some things that we’ve grown up with. In “Going Going Gone” Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta will take a walk down memory lane and talk about products that are either on their way out the door or completely obsolete. Christiano-Mistretta will jolt your memory discussing other stuff we’ve long forgotten about. Come share your views in this interactive lecture! Audience participation is greatly encouraged! You may also bring your “old” items for show and tell.
