According to the Belleville Police Department:

“Our officers had to rescue several people this evening already. Severe weather is expected to continue throughout the night. We urge you to stay safe and DO NOT try to drive through flooded roadways and don’t go around barricades!”

“Six inches of fast-moving floodwater can knock you off your feet, and a depth of two feet will float your car,” Belleville police continued. “Never try to walk, bike or drive through flooded areas. Water may be deeper than you think!”

Drivers should respect traffic barriers if they come across one, and turn around and go another way, authorities said.

“Keep children from playing in floodwaters or near culverts and storm drains,” police added. “Let’s all work together and get through this storm safely!”
