Essex County Rally On ‘Trump Shutdown,' DREAM Act
A coalition of working class New Jerseyans and immigrants in Essex County plan to hold a pro-immigration rally on Jan. 22.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A coalition of working class New Jerseyans and immigrants in Essex County plan to hold a “Denounce #TrumpShutdown” and pro-DREAM Act rally at the Peter Rodino Federal Building, 970 Broad Street in Newark, at 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22.
According to a news release from organizers:
“On Friday, Trump and the Republicans shut down our government, putting every American at risk - including 9 million kids and 800,000 Dreamers. They did this by repeatedly undermining negotiations by insisting on funding for Trump’s racist border wall. In the meantime, Dreamers and TPS holders continue to live without any certain relief. In Puerto Rico, millions of households have gone 120+ days without power. Federal workers and all of us who rely on federal programs are out in the cold. Today, we will join together to denounce the #TrumpShutDown.”
Organizers added late Monday afternoon that the rally will also be held in support of DREAM recipients, and that activists will be joined via telephone by U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, as well as local and state elected officials and legislators.
