Essex County Teen Shot, Officers Injured During Robbery: Police
A trio of police officers suffered injuries and an 18-year-old male suspect was shot during an alleged robbery in N.J., authorities say.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A trio of police officers suffered injuries and an 18-year-old male suspect was shot during an alleged robbery in Essex County on Tuesday night, authorities say.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident took place in Newark around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Summer Avenue and Sylvan Avenue when officers arrived at the scene of a robbery in progress.
One of the responding officers, an off-duty cop on his way to work, shot the suspect, Victor Raymonds, 18, of Newark, during the encounter, authorities said.

The officer - who was not named in Wednesday’s police statement – and two other officers incurred injuries; one suffered a broken arm and another suffered an injured jaw, authorities said.
Emergency responders transported Raymonds to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition as of Wednesday, police said.

Authorities have charged Raymonds with robbery, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on police officers.
“Consistent with Attorney General guidelines, the incident remains under review by the Professional Standards Bureau of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office,” prosecutors said.
