Fraud In Nutley: Computer Repair, Online Job Posting
Two cases of fraud were reported in Nutley: one involving computer repair and another involving an online job posting.
NUTLEY, NJ — Two cases of fraud were recently reported in Nutley: one involving computer repair and another involving an online job posting.
The Nutley Police Department released the following details about each incident:
March 4 (Kingsland Street) – “A resident responded to headquarters to document an incident of fraud. The victim stated they received an email from who they believed was the Geek Squad, stating they were up for a renewal of their services and would need to gain access to their computer due to already charging their account. The victim stated they gave access to their computer to the unknown party and later observed fraudulent activity on their bank account. The victim stated they informed their bank of the incident, and the account was frozen. The Detective Bureau was advised.”

March 5 (Jefferson Street) – “A victim of fraud responded to headquarters to document the incident. They stated they responded to a job posting online and received an email back with a questionnaire requesting pertinent information. They stated they received a follow-up email advising they would receive a check in the mail to purchase job equipment. The victim stated when they received the check in the mail and attempted to cash it, bank personnel advised them that it was fraudulent. They were offered the opportunity to be entered as an identity theft victim, which they wished to do. The detective bureau was advised.”
