Fraud In Nutley: Unauthorized Car Sale, Store Returns, Computer Scam

Three cases of fraud were recently reported in Nutley, authorities said.

NUTLEY, NJ — Three cases of fraud were reported in Nutley earlier this month, authorities recently announced.

The Nutley Police Department released the following details about each incident:

May 18 (Franklin Avenue) – A resident advised that they had received notification that an unknown party was using their information to purchase a vehicle. They stated they had received notice in the mail about payments due for the vehicle, but they did not purchase it.

May 23 (Franklin Avenue) – Store personnel responded to headquarters to report an incident of fraud. They stated a female party was attempting to make returns but wanted them charged to a different card than the one used from the original transaction. They stated after the returns were processed, they believed it to be fraudulent activity. The surrounding area was canvassed for further information.

May 23 (River Road) – A resident responded to headquarters to report a suspicious incident. They stated they received notification while on their computer and believed it to be from Microsoft. They stated they called the number provided and when asked to log into their bank account, they became suspicious of this being a scam. They informed officers that they did not provide any personal information. They were advised to contact their bank and monitor all their accounts.
