Garbage, Recycling Pickup Issues In Belleville Due To COVID-19

Belleville isn't the only Essex County town to experience "challenges" with garbage and recycling due to the virus.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The garbage and recycling contractor for Belleville has recently seen issues with pickups due to the coronavirus, officials said.

On Thursday, Belleville town officials released the following advisory:

“Due to COVID-19 related issues, the township's solid waste/recycling contractor has been experiencing difficult challenges completing garbage and recycling pickup according to our schedule. We continue to work on alternative measures to provide the highest level of service. We ask for your patience during this difficult period. Every effort will be made to pick up solid waste/recyclable material the following morning of any missed pickup stops.”

Belleville isn’t the only Essex County town to see issues with garbage and recycling due to the virus. Earlier this year, Montclair temporarily halted curbside recycling collection after COVID-19 caused “significant” staffing shortages among the Department of Community Services.
