Garfield School District Hires Belleville Superintendent: Board Prez

Belleville Superintendent Richard Tomko is taking over the reins in Garfield, a letter from that town's board of education states.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville School Superintendent Richard Tomko will soon be taking over the reins in Garfield, according to a letter from that district’s board of education.

Jorge Ramos, president of the Garfield Board of Education, recently issued a message to the school community about Tomko’s appointment, which was unanimously approved at a recent board meeting. Read it online here.

Tomko’s appointment in Garfield will become effective July 1, the letter states.

Tomko was recently named as a “Leader to Learn From” by Education Week. He is the recipient of the 2020-2021 Essex County Superintendent of the Year award.
