Traveling In Essex County: Transportation Guide Offers Tips For Seniors, People With Disabilities

The guide focuses on transit services for older adults and people with a disability.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — There are all sorts of ways to travel in Essex County. But “mobility” isn’t just getting from point A to point B – it’s also about freedom, efficiency and sustainability, advocates say.

EZ Ride, a nonprofit public-private partnership that addresses commuting challenges in New Jersey, recently released a Transportation Resource Guide for people living in Essex County. View it online here.

The guide focuses on transit services for older adults and people with a disability. It highlights a variety of resources offered by NJ Transit, Essex County, transportation network companies such as Lyft and Uber, nonprofits, private wheelchair transportation providers, taxi companies and private buses.

The guide also spotlights transportation options run by local municipalities, including Bloomfield, Belleville, East Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Montclair, Nutley, Roseland and West Orange.

Developed in collaboration with Essex County, the publication was prepared with funding from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority and the Federal Highway Administration.

“Providing safe and reliable transportation options is essential to supporting the well-being and independence of all of our residents, especially seniors and those with limited mobility,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said.
