‘Immediate Vacancy’ Opens On Belleville School Board Ahead Of Election
Belleville needs a new school board member, and the casting call is officially out.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville needs a new school board member, and the casting call is officially out.
According to a municipal advisory, the town is seeking to fill an immediate vacancy on the Belleville Board of Education. The notice doesn't specify which member of the board is being replaced; Patch has reached out to administrators for more clarification.
The board is seeking qualified residents who are interested in being considered for appointment to fill the vacant trustee position, which can be filled by a majority vote of the remaining members of the school board.

The person selected for appointment is expected to begin serving in October, and will serve for the remainder of the current term, through the board’s reorganization meeting scheduled for Jan. 6, 2027.

- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a resident of the Belleville School District for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment
- Be able to read and write
- Be a registered voter in the Belleville School District
- Not be disqualified as a voter pursuant to R.S. 19:4-1
- Not have been convicted of a crime or offense that would disqualify the individual from Board membership under N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1
- Meet all other qualifications and requirements for membership on a local board of education under New Jersey law
Additionally, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-2, a board member may not have a direct or indirect interest in any contract with or claim against the board and may not simultaneously serve as mayor or as a member of the governing body of the Township of Belleville.

The vacancy is being announced as Belleville gets ready for a school board election this November.
