Intoxicated Belleville Man Rescued From Nutley Porta-Potty: Police

NUTLEY, NJ — A dangerously intoxicated man recently locked himself in a porta-potty in Nutley and fell asleep, forcing local emergency responders to break into the toilet and rescue him, authorities say.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the unusual rescue took place on Centre Street on Sept. 6. Officers were alerted to the man’s predicament when they received a call about a person sleeping in a porta-potty.

When officers arrived on the scene, they tried to make contact with the slumbering man, who was later identified as a 29-year-old Belleville resident.

He didn’t reply, police said.

When the officers finally managed to unlock the door, they found the fully clothed Belleville man in a severely intoxicated condition, “slurring his words and having difficulty standing up on his own,” authorities said.

The Nutley Emergency Rescue Squad soon arrived on the scene and examined the man, finding that his “level of intoxication was to the point of being a danger to himself,” police said.

At that point, emergency responders took the man to a nearby hospital for evaluation, police stated.

Authorities charged the alleged porta john crasher with disorderly conduct after he was released from the hospital. He was advised of his court date and released from custody.
