Job Offer From 'Marquis Brown' Was Fraud: Nutley Police

Nutley, NJ – If you’re applying for a job and get a reply from “Marquis Brown,” you might want to think twice before replying.

The Nutley Police Department recently received a fraud report from a victim that allegedly had a suspicious encounter while applying for jobs on the Internet.

The prospective employee told police that they responded to several listings and received a reply from a person named “Marquis Brown” in reference to a warehouse worker position.

The victim then allegedly received payment in advance in the form of two money orders for $975. After the victim made a deposit to their checking account, their bank contacted them and stated that the money orders were fraudulent, police said.

Police attempted to contact Marquis Brown via phone with negative results.

The victim’s bank is investigating the incident and there was no monetary loss suffered, police stated.
