Kearny Man Tries To Shake Belleville Cops, Jumps 2 Fences: Police

Belleville police apprehended an alleged burglar from Kearny after he tried to shake them by running through rear yards, authorities said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville police apprehended an alleged burglar from Kearny after he tried to shake officers by running through rear yards and hopping two fences earlier this month, authorities said.

According to the Belleville Police Department, officers on patrol saw a man matching a description of a wanted person around 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 12 on Carpenter Terrace. The officers got out of their vehicle and approached the man on foot. When man – later identified as Jeremy Postel, 21, of Kearny – saw the officers approach, he took off running, leading them on a chase that went through nearby rear yards and over two fences, police said.

Officers were able to apprehend Postel in a rear yard near Fairway and Belleville avenues. He continued to struggle and resist officers until taken into custody, police stated.

Authorities charged Postel with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, obstruction, resisting arrest and eluding by flight.
