Lyndhurst Man Hurt, 2nd Man Killed As Car Hits Tree: Prosecutor

Breaking: Monmouth student Jose R. Rivera, 21, of Lyndhurst, is hospitalized after the crash that killed a South Jersey man. officials said.

OCEAN TOWNHIP, NJ — A Lyndhurst man was injured in a crash that killed a South Jersey man in Monmouth County on Saturday morning not far from Monmouth University, where both were students, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.

Jose R. Rivera, 21, of Lyndhurst, was hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune following the crash that happened about 2:40 a.m., authorities said.

His passenger, Dane M. Fante, 20, of Moorestown, was pronounced dead at Monmouth Medical Center in West Long Branch, the prosecutor's office said.

Rivera was driving a 2006 Audi AA8 east on 223 South Lincoln Ave. in Ocean Townshipo when the car veered off the road and hit multiple objects including a tree, where it came to rest, the prosecutor's office said.

Rivera's injuries were non-life threatening injuries, the prosecutor's office said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Ocean Township Police Department.
