Man Accused Of Belleville Stabbing Arrested In Trenton: Police

An Essex County man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and burglary, prosecutors said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Police have apprehended a man wanted in connection with a stabbing incident in Belleville that took place last month, authorities announced Monday.

Termaine Pines, 48, of Newark, was arrested Sunday night at a homeless shelter in Trenton without incident, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Belleville Police Department.

Officers with the prosecutor’s office and Belleville detectives made the arrest with assistance from the Trenton Police Department, authorities said. Pines’ whereabouts were being tracked by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the Belleville and Baltimore police departments and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

According to the prosecutor’s office:

“On November 20, a local resident was stabbed when she entered her home on Van Rensselear Street. The victim was able to flee from the assailant and seek help. The victim was treated for her stab wounds at a local hospital. The suspect fled the area after the incident. When Belleville officers responded to the residence, they also discovered an unresponsive elderly female in a first-floor bedroom. This woman, who resided within the residence, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of death of the woman is pending final determination by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner.”

Pines has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
