Man Flees Belleville DWI Crash With Bottle Of Vodka In Hand, Police Allege

Belleville police arrested a Clark man after he was allegedly caught fleeing from the scene of an accident with a bottle of vodka.

Belleville, NJ – Police arrested a Clark resident after he was allegedly caught fleeing from the scene of an accident with a bottle of vodka in his hand.

According to the Belleville Police Department, an officer reported to the scene of a two-car accident on Franklin Avenue around 10:42 p.m. on Jan. 11 to find Alexander Hayhurst, 21, of Clark, running away from the crash site.

The officer reported that Hayhurst was carrying a bottle of vodka and “appeared intoxicated,” police stated.

Police found another open bottle of vodka inside Clark’s vehicle, authorities said.

Authorities charged Hayhurst with driving while intoxicated and issued him multiple motor vehicle summonses. He also had two open warrants totaling $1,500, police stated.
