Man Robbed In Belleville As He Gets Off Train: Police

A group of male suspects robbed and assaulted a victim who had just gotten off a train in Belleville, police say.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A group of male suspects allegedly robbed a victim who had just gotten off a train in Belleville, punching the man in the head and knocking him to the ground, authorities say.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the robbery took place around 8:25 p.m. on Magnolia Street. The victim told officers that a group of four males followed him as he got off the train, then accosted him on Magnolia Street.

The victim said that the males announced they were robbing him, then punched him on the right side of his head. After the blow knocked the victim to the ground, the suspects grabbed his backpack and fled the scene on foot, police said.

The backpack was found a short distance from the scene, police said.

Belleville police said that the victim declined medical attention. He said that one of the suspects was a black male about 15 to 16-years-old, wearing a red jacket and dark pants. He described the other attackers as men wearing “dark clothing.”

Authorities are investigating the incident, Belleville police said.
