NUTLEY, NJ — A stranger recently ripped off a Nutley teen who he met at Chipotle, tricking the 18-year-old into cashing a phony check, authorities said.
A man standing in line at the restaurant asked the teen if he could cash a $900 check on June 4, offering him $50 for the effort. The teen declined the $50, but agreed to cash the man’s check anyway.
The two met at a nearby TD Bank, where the teen deposited the check and handed the man $900 in cash.
