Man Tries To Assault Nutley Cops, Enter Locked Police Car: Authorities
A man was arrested in Nutley after he allegedly tried to assault officers and enter a locked police car, authorities said.
NUTLEY, NJ — A man was arrested in Nutley after he allegedly tried to assault officers and enter a locked police car last week, authorities said.
The incident took place on Centre Street on July 23, when officers responded to the area on a report of an attempted car theft, the Nutley Police Department reported Friday.
After police arrived at the scene, Timothy Murphy, 32, tried to assault officers and enter a police vehicle, authorities said. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer (3rd degree), burglary to auto (3rd degree), and criminal conspiracy in the attempt to commit a theft of motor vehicle.

Murphy would not allow himself to be fingerprinted during processing, and was subsequently charged with refusal to submit fingerprints, police said. He was also issued a township citation for improper behavior.
Murphy was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, police said.
