Men In Ski Masks Try To Rob Victim At Belleville Bank ATM: Police

The victim wasn't injured in the attempted robbery, Belleville police said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Four men in ski masks allegedly tried to rob a victim at a bank ATM in Belleville early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the attempted robbery took place at the Valley National Bank ATM on Washington Avenue around midnight.

The victim told police that he saw a red Mercedes Benz C300 circle the area near the machine just before the robbery attempt. After he made a deposit and was getting back in his car, he saw the Mercedes accelerate in his direction. The car then struck his own parked vehicle, authorities said.

There were four men inside the Mercedes, all wearing ski masks. One of them motioned like he had a gun, but none of them spoke or got out of the car, the victim told police.

After the attempted robbery, the victim followed the suspects’ vehicle south on Washington Avenue until he contacted the police. Officers responded to the scene and searched the area, but didn’t find the suspects of their vehicle.
