Mikie Sherrill Visits Belleville Firehouse To Push For Benefit Changes
Rep. Sherrill is pushing to repeal federal policies that "unfairly cut hard-earned social security benefits for retired first responders."

BELLEVILLE, NJ — U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill paid a visit to a firehouse in Belleville this week to push for the repeal of federal policies that she says is unfairly targeting the wallets of retired emergency responders.
Sherrill – who represents New Jersey’s 11th District in Congress – is pushing for legislative efforts in the House to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset, policies that “unfairly cut hard-earned social security benefits for retired first responders.”
Representatives of the Belleville Fire Department, the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association and multiple labor union leaders were on hand for what Sherrill called an “important conversation.”

“Our first responders pay into Social Security throughout their entire careers and deserve access to every benefit they earned,” Sherrill said. “That’s why it was so important to sit down with leaders from New Jersey’s public safety unions and local retirees to hear directly about how the Windfall Elimination Provision is harming individuals who spent their lives protecting our communities.”
The following municipalities are included in the 11th District:
