NUTLEY, NJ — More than $17,000 in funds were returned to a Nutley resident who was recently the victim of a fraud, police said.
The Nutley Police Department released the following statement about the fraud case on Tuesday:
“The victim of fraud reported the incident to headquarters. It was stated that their financial institution contacted them regarding suspicious activity at their branch in Bridgeport, CT, and the victim also found two other suspicious withdrawals and a cashed check out of Waterbury, CT. A total of over $17,000 in transactions were made prior to the bank becoming suspicious and the suspect/actor leaving the premises quickly. The financial institution opened an investigation and returned all the funds back to the victim. It was stated that the suspect/actor had a driver’s license with the victim’s personal information on it, but the photo was not of the victim. Due to those circumstances, the victim opted into the Identity Theft Victim database and was advised to contact social security and the credit agencies to report the incidents.”
