Newark Man Admits Robbing Belleville Bank: Prosecutor

The Newark man passed a Belleville bank employee a note that demanded money and threatened to use a gun, prosecutors say.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A Newark man has admitted to robbing the Valley National Bank branch on Bloomfield Avenue in Belleville last April, prosecutors say.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (New Jersey), Donald Myer, 60, of Newark, pleaded guilty on Thursday in federal court to one count of bank robbery.

Prosecutors said that Myer admitted he passed a note to a bank employee during the robbery that demanded money and threatened to use a gun.

The bank robbery charge to which Myer pleaded guilty carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for June 27, prosecutors said.

Acting U.S. Attorney Fitzpatrick credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Timothy Gallagher in Newark, with the investigation leading to today’s guilty plea. He also thanked the Belleville, Kearny and Port Authority police departments for their contributions to the case.
