NJ Good Samaritan Missing; Tried To Rescue ‘Depressed’ Man From Passaic River: Cops
Authorities are searching for a Good Samaritan who jumped into the Passaic River to rescue a "depressed" man, police say.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — UPDATE: Authorities have provided the identity of the missing man, Martin Ramos, 39, of Newark. The search for Ramos continues. He was described as a white or Hispanic man wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and brown work boots, police stated Tuesday afternoon. Our original article follows below.
Authorities are searching for a Good Samaritan who jumped into the Passaic River near the 800-block of Raymond Boulevard in Newark to rescue a “depressed” man last weekend, police say.
Around 2 p.m. on Saturday, a bystander flagged down Newark police officers and said that they saw two men go into the river. Emergency responders arrived at the river and rescued one of the men, who told police that he went into the water because “he was depressed,” authorities said.

The man is receiving medical treatment, police said.
The second man – who may have entered the river in a rescue attempt – has not been found, police stated.
