NUTLEY, NJ — A Nutley resident’s attempts to repair a dishwasher ended with some ugly results last week when a water pipe burst, flooding their apartment and the one below them, authorities said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, officers responded to a River Road apartment complex on June 6 after receiving a report about a hazardous condition at one of the units. On arrival, the officers found “significant flooding conditions" due to a ruptured pipe.

Nutley police said that the damage also flooded the unit below, causing both to become uninhabitable.
