Nutley Cops Nab Home Burglary Suspect

A barefoot Bloomfield Avenue resident chased down the intruder after catching him in the act.

Nutley police arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly robbing a Bloomfield Avenue home on Saturday night.

According to police, the homeowner - barefoot and in his bedclothes - took chase after the fleeing suspect when he discovered him in the kitchen around 5 a.m., eventually losing him around Bloomfield and Kingsland avenues.

Nutley police, assisted by the Bloomfield Police Department and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 unit, conducted a search of the area.

One of the dogs was able to track the scent to Alexander Avenue, where they found and arrested Onnjii Campbell of Newark.

Campbell was charged with Burglary, Theft, and Possession of Burglary tools, in addition to Criminal Attempt.
