Nutley Driver Hits Pedestrian, Charged With Assault: Police

Nutley police said the pedestrian recognized the driver, whom they'd had a "court matter" with earlier in the day.

NUTLEY, NJ — A Nutley resident was charged with simple assault and issued several motor vehicle summonses after allegedly hitting a pedestrian and failing to stop earlier this week, police said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the incident took place Wednesday on Chestnut Street as the pedestrian was crossing the road.

Nutley police said the pedestrian recognized the driver, whom they’d had a “court matter” with earlier in the day.

Nutley police charged the driver – a 25-year-old local resident whose name wasn’t released in an initial statement – with simple assault, and also issued motor vehicle summonses for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report Accident, Failure to Possess Auto Insurance Card, Failure to Possess Driver’s License and Registration, and Reckless Driving.
