NUTLEY, NJ — A man is in custody and two others are at-large after they allegedly tried to burglarize a home in Nutley last week, authorities recently announced.
The Nutley Police Department released the following statement about the incident on Friday:
“Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo are advising residents of an attempted burglary to an occupied home. Police responded to Columbia Avenue at 2:52 a.m. this morning for an attempted burglary. Through surveillance, multiple actors are observed attempting to gain entry into the rear sliding doors of the home unsuccessfully. Police located three men along Gerard Road fitting their description. When they observed police, the three fled on foot with one apprehended. Neighboring agencies including Lyndhurst, Belleville, Bloomfield and Bergen sheriffs responded to assist in searching for the two. Chief Strumolo stated at this time we have one under arrest for burglary and obstruction. It is believed the actors were attempting to gain access to recover keys to a vehicle parked in driveway.”
Police reminded Nutley residents to “lock their doors at all times, and secure keys and fobs at all times.”
