Nutley Library Updates: COVID Precautions, Events, Services

NUTLEY, NJ — The Nutley Public Library is open for its full hours, and visitors are welcome – as long as they follow coronavirus precautions, administrators say.

On Monday, library staff gave an update on programs, policies and events, including pandemic safety. According to a news release:

“The health and safety of our patrons, staff, and the community at large is our highest priority during this challenging time. The library is open full hours with many socially distanced programs in place, as well as computer use, printing, photocopying, document scanning, notary service, iPads and the Story Time Room. Masks are required to be worn when entering the library. Pandemic guidelines are subject to change based on CDC, New Jersey state and local recommendations. Meanwhile, events like the fall book sale continue to be a success, library staff added:

“The Friends of the Nutley Public Library had a tremendously successful Fall Book Sale. A big THANK YOU to all who helped plan the sale, worked to set-up, sell books and break down afterwards. And, SPECIAL THANKS to everyone in the community who donated books. We were overwhelmed with the number of donations this year; our room was full to the brim thanks to your generosity! And, finally, thanks to all you who supported our programs financially by buying books. Due to the sale’s success, we just approved a budget for three more months of enrichment for children and teens at the Nutley Library. If you would like to join and/or be more involved with this vibrant organization, please contact friendsofnutleylibrary@gmail.com. The next meeting of the Friends of the Nutley Public Library will be February 3, 2022, at 4:30 p.m. in the library. All members of the Nutley Friends are welcome to attend.”

hoopla BingePass is Here! - In addition to hoopla access to thousands of music, movies, television shows, eBooks, and eAudiobooks, the Nutley Public Library is excited to introduce hoopla BingePass to our digital media collection! hoopla BingePass provides access to hoopla Magazines and The Great Courses Library Collection. With just one borrow you will have 7 days of unlimited streaming to 50+ popular magazines and 600+ in-depth instructional courses from some of the world’s greatest professors. Saturday, January 1-31 – 2022 Winter Reading Challenge - Join our annual challenge and read at least 620 minutes in January 2022 for a chance to win a prize! All children and teens that complete the program will receive a certificate and goodie bag. Open to all ages: babies to adults. Sponsored by the Friends of the Nutley Public Library. Wednesday, January 5 at 3:15 p.m. – (In-Person Program) Manga & Anime Club – Try Japanese snacks, watch anime, discuss manga, and talk about other pop culture media with friends! For grades 6-12. No registration required!

Saturday, January 8, 15, 22, 29 – (In-Person Program) - Drop-In Craft Saturdays – Stop by the Children’s Room to make a craft to take home. No registration required! For all ages. While supplies last.

Wednesday, January 12 at 3:15 p.m. – (In-Person Program) - Video Game Club – Play popular Switch games with friends on the big screen! All skill levels are welcome. No registration required!

Thursday, January 13 at 7:00 p.m. – (In-Person Program) - DIY Make a Pearl Necklace – Enjoy a fun and creative workshop and make a lovely glass pearl necklace. All materials are provided, but you must bring flat nose pliers. On-Line registration is required and limited to 20 Nutley Adults.

Tuesday, January 18-February 15 at 10:30 a.m. – (Virtual) – Babygarten – Babies and caregivers enjoy books, rhymes, songs and bounces from the comfort of their own homes in our weekly virtual story time! Wednesday, January 19 – February 16 at 10:30 a.m. – (Virtual) - Pre-School Story Time – Children ages 3-5 can enjoy stories, songs, crafts and yoga in our virtual story time! Friday, January 21 – February 18 at 10:30 a.m. – (Virtual) – Two-Year-Old Story Time – Join us for a weekly virtual story time featuring stories, rhymes, music and crafts just for children age 2! Saturday, January 22 at 10:30 am. (Virtual) – STEAM Story Time - Join us for a virtual story time featuring stories and activities highlighting science, tech, engineering, art and math! For ages 2-6. Monday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. – (In-Person Program) Hooked on Books Reading Club – Chat about a book, play games and just hang out in our virtual meet-up! For students in grades 4-6. Wednesday, January 26 (Take-Home Kit) - Teen Maker’s Club – Do you love art, technology, and all things crafty? Join in and make a special project with friends or work on your own personal project! For grades 6-12. No registration required!

Friday, January 28 at 3:45 p.m. – (In-Person Program) – Techsplorers Club – Explore technology and STEM subjects with Mr. L. Open to grades 3-6. Registration is required. Monday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. – (In-Person Program) - DISH! The Monday Night Cookbook Club. Members will choose, prepare at home, and present a soup or stew DISH! We will then gather in person to discuss each other’s recipes, your cooking techniques, and share stores and culture.
