Nutley Police Blotter: Oct. 10 to 15

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are reprinted directly from the Nutley police blotter, a listing of selected incidents that may not include the full scope of activity in the area. All of the following incidents are accusations, and all suspects should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
10/10/15
Theft – Ernest Street – Officers responded regarding a past occurred theft. The caller stated they spoke to their letter carrier earlier today and was advised the missing package was left inside the door this morning. The package contained Timberland boots and a Carhart hat with a combined value of $201. The box was left inside the outer apartment building door that does not lock. The victim is unaware of who may have taken it. No further information at this time.

10/11/15
Criminal Mischief – Passaic Avenue - Officers responded and spoke with the victim who stated they heard three loud bangs from the rear of their residence. They observed two panels of their fence broken (unknown monetary value), a third panel knocked to the ground, and a scratch on the A-Pillar of the above listed vehicle from the fence falling on it. Officers advised the victim and the owner of the vehicle, to contact police should they need further assistance and how to obtain a copy of this report.

10/12/15
Theft from Vehicle – Washington Avenue – The owner of a vehicle parked in their driveway reported items missing from inside the car. Close to $500 of contents was reported stolen. The victim stated that they left the vehicle doors unlocked overnight. The vehicle did not have any signs of forced entry. Surveillance cameras in the area are being checked for the possibility of the actor/s being identified. The victim was advised to contact police should they have any further information.
Motor Vehicle Theft – River Road - Headquarters dispatched officers to the location regarding the theft of a motorcycle. The victim stated that the bike was parked under the building and was locked in the garage area that was well illuminated. The motorcycle was last seen this morning around 7 a.m. as the victim left the apartment for the day. The victim has the only keys for the motorcycle and lock. A check with the building super was done and according to the victim the bike was not removed by management. The bike was entered as stolen in the database.
10/13/15
Fraud – Van Winkle Avenue – The victim of fraud responded to Headquarters to report that they received two different calls from Apple to confirm the order for a $1,700 MacBook Air laptop. The victim advised Apple that it was a fraudulent purchase so they canceled it. The credit card used for the transaction has already been cancelled and the credit agencies contacted to inquire about any other transactions pending. Apple advised they wanted the incident documented on a police report for them to reimburse for the fraudulent purchase.
Criminal Mischief – Passaic Avenue – The victim stated they discovered the left front and rear tires to have been flattened as the result of a puncture to sidewalls. Workers replacing the tires confirmed the damage to have been caused by an unknown sharp object. Each tire cost $37 to replace, totaling $74. It is not known who committed the damage. The victim was advised of their right to sign a complaint with the municipal court should the actor/s be identitfied.
Motor Vehicle Theft – White Terrace – The victim stated that they parked their truck in their driveway and when they looked outside a bit later they did not see their truck in the driveway. The truck is a company vehicle and the owner was contacted and advised that the vehicle would be entered into the system as stolen.
10/14/15
Theft – Ernest Street – the victim of a theft reported the incident to officers. A package delivered USPS was delivered and placed into the mailbox for the victim and was taken. The contents were worth $15 and it is not known who took the package. The front door is not secure and can be accessed because it does not lock. Other tenants have had the same problem in the recent past. The victim was advised of their right to sign a complaint of theft, should the actor/s be positively identified.

Theft From Vehicle – Grant Avenue - Officers responded to the area regarding two vehicles that were burglarized during the night. The victim states that both vehicles were rummaged through and it appears as if they were left unlocked in the driveway. At this time, nothing is reported missing from either vehicle. The victim was advised that if they should find any of their property missing to please notify the Nutley Police Department.
Theft From Vehicle – Walnut Street – The victim contacted police regarding a theft from their vehicle. While going out to their vehicle, the victim observed the plastic board that sits at the bottom of the driver’s side door on the ground in the driveway, and observed the contents of the glove box scattered throughout the interior. It was noted that the plastic board had been broken for some time and regularly falls off when the door opens. The doors to the vehicle may have been unlocked due to the locking mechanism malfunctioning. An undetermined amount of loose change was missing from the center console and two pair of “Shades of Couture” sunglasses were stolen valued at $40 each. The victim was informed to contact Nutley Police should they find anything else missing from the vehicle.
