Nutley Police Find Cannibal Cats Enduring Gruesome Conditions In N.J.
Nutley police say that more than a dozen dead cats were eaten by their starving housemates.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police investigating a ghoulish smell in a Lloyd Street apartment last week found a nightmarish scene riddled with more than a dozen malnourished cats, some of which had apparently cannibalized their deceased housemates, authorities say.
According to police, Nutley health officials first responded to a Lloyd Street apartment on Sept. 14 after receiving a complaint about a “very strong, foul odor” emanating from the home. On arrival, police gained access to the apartment and came across a hellish scene, finding several feline carcasses decomposing on the living room floor.
Police then evacuated the premises and called in the Nutley Fire Department to provide ventilation and protective gear before re-entering the home, authorities said.

When officers stepped back into the apartment, they found an “unkempt” home in “disarray,” with garbage strewn about and litter boxes overflowing with fecal matter. The officers found several “neglected and unhealthy” cats walking around in the filth, authorities said.
After conducting a search, officers found more carcasses in the kitchen and bedroom of the apartment, some of which had apparently been eaten and which had “only skeletal remains,” police said.

Animal control officers arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and conducted a further check of the home, photographing the scene and removing 13 live cats for medical evaluation.
The officers said that there may have been as many as a dozen dead cats in the apartment, but that the number “may have been higher prior to being consumed by the living cats.”
“After Animal Control concludes their investigation and has a complete total for the expired cats, and time they had been deceased, they would determine charges to be placed against the actor, who hasn’t resided there for the past few weeks,” Nutley Detective Anthony Montanari stated.
