Nutley Police Give Narcan To Man Found Unconscious Near Library

The man – who is experiencing homelessness – was found sleeping on a bench outside the library two days later, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police recently administered Narcan to an unconscious man inside a gated area at the public library, transporting him to the hospital for treatment. The man – who is experiencing homelessness – was found sleeping on a bench outside the library two days later, authorities said.

The Nutley Police Department released the following information about each incident.

June 18 - Police responded to an unconscious person on the steps of the Nutley Public Library. The gated area was padlocked with “no trespassing” signs posted. Officers needed to climb the fence to render first aid and administer intranasal naloxone Narcan. Upon the fire department’s arrival, the padlock was cut in an effort to transport a 32-year-old homeless man to the hospital.

June 20 - Police took a report from library officials, who said a man was seen sleeping on the benches near their entrance. After reviewing surveillance, it was determined that the person trespassing was the same 32-year-old man that police have responded to in the past.
