NUTLEY, NJ — A Tinder user became the victim of a scam after having trouble signing into their dating app account last week, Nutley police said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the victim – whose identity and gender weren’t disclosed in an initial statement about the incident – told officers about the alleged fraud on April 19.

The victim told police that when they encountered trouble signing into their Tinder account, they called a phone number that they found on a website that was allegedly the company’s contact number. A person who identified themselves as “Roger” told the victim that their account had been “hacked” and that the victim needed to buy software to unhack their Tinder account.
