Nutley Public Schools Issues Coronavirus Update
Wednesday, April 1 has been designated a "catch-up day" for all staff and students.
During these past few weeks, we’ve seen the world change. Our daily routines and learning environments are unrecognizable. Yet, we are all adapting. Our district transitioned to virtual learning at an accelerated pace. As the second trimester and third marking period come to a close, the district will designate Wednesday, April 1st, as a “catch-up day” for all K-12 staff and students. This time will provide students with a chance to complete missed assignments, and staff with an opportunity to check-in with students missing outstanding work.

On Wednesday, April 1st, teachers will provide a discussion question or a brief “do now.” This should take students no more than 5 to 10 minutes. Teachers will designate times/opportunities for students to make up outstanding work for the third marking period, on the secondary level. Teachers will not plan any new instruction or assign new assignments on this day, enabling all students to take a breath and “catch up” on all work. Students will still need to respond to a discussion question or “do now” to check-in for attendance. Attendance will be taken in accordance with the virtual learning plan.
As teachers continue to provide opportunities for students to video conference for discussion, direct instruction, feedback, and to receive support via Google Meet and Schoology conferences, we’ve attached (here) some helpful tips and etiquette to keep in mind for these platforms.

Once again, thank you for all you’ve done, and continue to do, during this challenging time. We are stronger when we work together and we know that virtual learning may be a strain on some families while we are navigating so many competing needs. We hope that Wednesday’s “catch up” day will be a benefit to all.
