NUTLEY, NJ — A series of monthly discussions in Nutley are trying to reach out to local youth to raise awareness about mental health.
The Nutley Department of Public Affairs and Health – in partnership with Nutley Family Service Bureau and the Nutley Public School District – will be conducting monthly student mental health panel discussions for the students at Nutley High School.
The talks – which will be held during school hours – will include speakers who will share their expertise and knowledge with local teens.

According to town officials, the panel in February will address relationship issues, such as “healthy vs. toxic,” effective communication and conflict resolution. The March panel will address “grief/anxiety,” and the April panel will tackle substance use disorders and how to tell if someone needs help.
“The health, stability and wellbeing of our students is our main concern,” Nutley Town Commissioner John Kelly said.

“As a whole, they have been through a very tough three-year period, and have seen and experienced things that will affect them for the rest of their lives,” Kelly said. “Our goal is to offer them a safe haven to discuss the issues that they may find difficult discussing elsewhere.”
