Nutley Resident ‘Appalled’ At Conditions Of Local US Flags

Although Peter Crosta isn't a veteran, his son is. And the Nutley resident is "appalled" at the state of some of the local flags he's seen.

NUTLEY, NJ — Although Peter Crosta isn’t a veteran, his son is. And the Nutley resident is “appalled” at the condition of some of the U.S. flags he’s seen around his town.

Crosta recently reached out to Patch with a message for his neighbors in Nutley: take more pride in your flag if you choose to put it on display.

Here’s what Crosta had to say:

“I am not a veteran, but my son is. I am really appalled at some of the flags around Nutley (commercial and residential) that are being displayed in the worst conditions. I happen to think the image I took of this commercial property on Harrison Street THE WORST and it has been like that for well over a YEAR. I just couldn’t take it anymore.”

He continued:

“Why can’t people take more pride in the symbol of our great nation? I have flown my flag on my home since 9-11 and change it when it looks dull and sun-bleached. I take pride in displaying it (it is illuminated at night). I understand people would not go to that extreme, but when it becomes tattered and torn, it is a disgrace and sends a HORRIBLE message to the community – especially our veterans and our youth.”

“Take that darn thing off and properly burn it. There is a ‘mailbox’ drop in front of 149 Chestnut Street for the sole purpose of properly discarding Old Glory. Don’t just throw it in the trash, please!”
