Nutley Resident Dodges Phone Scam Involving ‘Grandson’: Police
Previous scam alerts may have helped a local resident to avoid becoming a victim themselves, Nutley police said.
NUTLEY, NJ — Public awareness may be starting to pay off when it comes to fraud in Nutley.
According to the Nutley Police Department, previous scam alerts may have helped a local resident to avoid becoming a victim themselves on Aug. 14.
Police released the following statement about the incident:

“A resident reported to headquarters that they received a phone call from an actor claiming to be their ‘grandson’ asking for money due to being in an accident. The resident, aware of the scam from past police blotters, did not send money and hung up of the caller. The resident was reporting the incident to make officers aware that the calls were making the rounds in our area.”
Nutley police have issued repeated warnings about fraud cases in the township, including schemes similar to the above case.
