Nutley Resident Offered Woman A Drink, Got Burglarized: Police

A man and a woman stole jewelry and cash from a Nutley resident after the victim let one of the suspects inside for a drink, police said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A man and a woman allegedly stole jewelry and cash from a Nutley resident after the victim let one of the suspects inside for a drink of water, authorities said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, officers responded to a Park Avenue home on May 30 after getting a call about a burglary.

The victim told officers that they were sitting in their backyard when a man and a woman approached the property. The woman – who identified the man as her brother – began talking to the victim, and said she used to live across the street several years ago.

The woman asked the victim if she could have a drink of water and was invited inside. Later, after the pair had left, the victim went upstairs and found that jewelry and cash were missing, police said.

The victim said the male suspect may have gone inside the home while they were occupied with the female suspect, authorities said.

The victim said the female suspect was about 5 feet 4 inches and 140 pounds, and was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans. The male suspect was in his early 30's with a mustache and thin build, police said.
