Nutley Resident Scammed After 1 Year Of ‘Online Relationship’: Police
The victim said their relationship with "Emily Brooks" started more than a year ago. Then she asked for help paying her bills.
NUTLEY, NJ — A Nutley resident has apparently been scammed by a person they were in an online relationship with for more than a year, police said Friday.
According to the Nutley Police Department, the victim said their relationship with “Emily Brooks” started more than a year ago. After communicating for a while, she asked for help paying her bills.

“The victim would send $500 in Amazon gift cards and send a photo of the information needed for 'Emily' to use the money. This happened approximately 25 times and approximately $12,500 had been sent to ‘Emily Brooks.’ Just recently, she asked for $1,000 by midnight or she would expose explicit photographs that the victim had sent in the past on the internet. A demand for money had never been made prior, which made the victim feel it was a scam.”
The victim didn’t send the $1,000, and officers advised them to no longer give money to the person, authorities said.
