In Nutley: Residents Report 2 Stolen Cars, 6 Vehicle Break-Ins

Nutley police say that residents reported two stolen cars and six entered vehicles in one night.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police say that residents reported two stolen cars and six entered vehicles in one night last month.

According to the Nutley Police Department, officers believe that the stolen vehicles had their key fobs left inside and the doors unlocked. Residents reported the following two incidents:

  • Walnut Street - Officers responded to the area regarding a stolen motor vehicle. The victim came outside and found their 2015 Hyundai Sonata missing. There was nothing of value in the vehicle, but it was possible that the valet key was left in the center console. The vehicle was entered into the stolen vehicle database at headquarters.
  • Burnett Place – A vehicle was reported stolen from the area in which several attempted vehicle thefts were made. The car, a 2016 black colored Ford Explorer, was last seen in the driveway and did have the keys inside of the vehicle. The car was entered stolen in the database at headquarters.

Police also noted that six vehicle break-ins took place the same night along Grant Avenue and Walnut Street. Residents reported the following incidents:

  • Grant Avenue – Officers responded to the area in reference to a report of a car, a 2000 Jeep Wrangler, with an alarm going off and someone seen in the area of the vehicle. No further description was available for the actor/s. Upon inspection of the vehicle it was found that it had been left unlocked, and the passenger side door was left partially ajar. It was apparent that someone attempted to enter the vehicle but was scared off by the alarm.
  • Grant Avenue - While patrolling the area due to an attempted auto theft, officers found the door of a 2012 Buick Enclave not fully closed. It was observed that someone had entered the vehicle and rifled through the interior. The homeowner was notified. The doors had been left unlocked.
  • Walnut Street – An additional vehicle was found to have been rummaged through as officers were checking the area due to other thefts from vehicles. It was found that the doors were left unlocked.
  • Walnut Street – Another vehicle was found to have been rummaged through with a money counter missing from the interior of the vehicle. The 2014 GMC Acadia was parked in the driveway and left unlocked. The owner was advised not to touch the vehicle until the detective bureau contacts them for processing.
  • Walnut Street - Officers found another vehicle that had been rummaged through including the glove compartment being left open and papers thrown about. The owner of the vehicle was made aware of the situation and checked the vehicle for missing items. The Detective Bureau arrived on scene, spoke with the homeowner and processed the scene.
  • Walnut Street – Another vehicle, a Ram truck, was found rummaged through and officers were able to make contact with the owner. It was found the doors were left unlocked and the actor/s had taken money that was located in the console. The Detective Bureau arrived on scene to process the vehicle.
