Nutley Restaurant Was Family’s Livelihood; Ida Stole It From Them

NUTLEY, NJ — A family that owns a Nutley restaurant was already struggling with a cancer diagnosis and prior flood damage. Then Tropical Storm Ida hit – and they lost everything they had left.

Tropical Storm Ida has taken a tragic toll on Essex County, where four people have died. But in addition to the lives lost, the flooding devastated scores of local homeowners, as well as businesses around the county. Read More: 4 Dead In Essex County After Ida, Governor Says

One of them was Napoli Trattoria & Pizzeria on Franklin Avenue in Nutley, which was left in shambles after the storm (see photos above).

An online fundraising campaign has been launched in the name of the Arito family, who own the well-known local eatery. Learn more or make a donation here.

“Hi, my name is Giovanna, and I am starting this fundraiser for my cousins, the Arito family, who has been devastated by the major flooding that recently occurred and many other tragedies this past year. This is their second major flood within the past couple months. They have lost everything in the restaurant and haven’t received any payment yet from the flood they had in July. They are an amazing and giving family who helps everyone in need and now it’s their turn. In the past year, Amy has found out that she has breast cancer and has recently undergone a double mastectomy. Napoli Trattoria in Nutley is their livelihood and will need to be closed in order to assess and be rebuild. Please help this wonderful family who is desperately trying to adjust to their new reality and still having to pay medical bills and schooling. Thank you.”
