Nutley Schools Placed On Alert Due To Burglary, K9 Unit Called: Police

Multiple Nutley schools were placed on alert Thursday morning due to a reported home burglary in the area, police say.

NUTLEY, NJ — Multiple Nutley schools were placed on alert Thursday morning due to a reported home burglary in the area, police say.

According to Nutley authorities, police responded to a report of a home burglary on Durant Place around 7 a.m. On arrival at the scene, officers discovered five burglarized vehicles in the area of Grant Avenue and Burnett Place.

Police were able to apprehend one suspect and recovered a stolen vehicle out of Bloomfield, and are searching for another with the assistance of a Bergen County K9 unit, authorities stated.

Police described the remaining suspect as a thin black male wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored jeans.

“As a precautionary measure, Washington School, Yantacaw School, Abundant Life Worship Center and Little Angels Nursery School were notified to secure their buildings,” police stated.

“At this time, we believe the actor is out of the area and will advise schools to lower the alert by noon,” Nutley town officials stated around 10 a.m.
