Nutley Schools Will See Many Familiar Faces Leave This Year

Nutley, NJ – Nutley educators, parents and students may be seeing a lot of new faces next year.

On Tuesday, Bridgewater-Raritan school district administrators announced that Nutley Schools Superintendent Russell Lazovick has accepted the position of superintendent in their district, and will start a five-year $177,500 contract on July 1.

Lazovick has served as Nutley superintendent since 2011.

Lazovick posted a statement about his resignation on the district’s website:

“It has been a privilege to serve the students and parents, the administration, faculty and staff, and the members of the larger community for the past five years… While I have made the decision to begin in July in a district closer to my home so that I can be more present for my family, I will never forget my time in this unique township, the friendships built, and the accomplishments of the district, its staff, and our students.”

Lazovick’s announcement came a day after the Board of Education’s Monday public meeting, when several longtime staff and faculty members were approved for retirement.

The list of pending retirees includes Yantacaw Elementary Principal Annemarie Carollo, who has served with the district for 18 years and has served as principal since 2012.

Carollo will be retiring on July 1, 2016.

Other retirees include:

• Cocco, Donna: Guidance Counselor, HS, Resign from the position after 18 years with the district for the purpose of retirement

• Schoem, Janice: Resource Teacher, YS, Resign from the position after 26 years with the district for the purpose of retirement
• VonAchen, Carol: Teacher, SG, Resign from the position after 25 years with the district for the purpose of retirement
• Luzzi, Jo Ann: Secretary, MS, Resign from position after 25 years with the district for the purpose of retirement
• Battoglia, Phyllis: Secretary, MS, Resign from position after 25 years with the district for the purpose of retirement

The list also included Louis Manganiello, who passed away on Jan. 25.
