Nutley Is Seeking A 'Patriot Of The Year': Here's How To Nominate Someone

NUTLEY, NJ — Do you know a civilian who is a “patriot” in Nutley? The town is seeking nominations for an award that might be a perfect fit.
The township is putting out a call for its first “Patriot of the Year” award, which recognizes a civilian resident who has demonstrated “exceptional dedication to supporting veterans, service members or veteran-based initiatives.”
The Nutley Department of Public Affairs and Health will be seeking submissions for the award until Feb. 27. Make a nomination online here.

The distinction was introduced for the first time to honor residents whose “selfless efforts” often take place behind the scenes – but still have a meaningful impact on the veteran community.
Eligibility requirements include:

- Must not have a military background
- Lives in Nutley, a member of a Nutley Veteran Organization (Axillary Member), or part of the Nutley School District
- Shows commitment to supporting military service members, veterans, or their families
- Gives contributions to policies, programs, or initiatives that benefit the military and veteran community
- Ability to inspire and mobilize others in support of military-related causes
- Consistent dedication to military advocacy
- Willingness to go above and beyond in service to the military community
VETERAN OF THE YEAR
The Military & Veterans Affairs Bureau, in partnership with the Nutley Veterans Council, formally designated a Veteran of the Year award in 2025.
The award was presented to Navy submariner David Ingrassia, senior vice commander of Nutley VFW Post 493.
